Mark your calendars, because on April 8, a total solar eclipse will sweep across North America, plunging millions into darkness. The next total solar eclipse in the U.S. isn’t until 2044, making this a rare and exciting event for sky-watchers.
While Asheville won’t be in the path of totality for the 2024 eclipse, residents can still expect to see an impressive 85% coverage at its peak. The timing of the eclipse in Asheville is set to begin at 1:51 p.m., reach maximum coverage at 3:09 p.m., and end at 4:24 p.m.
To view the eclipse safely, be sure to grab some protective eyewear. Educational opportunities are also available in Western North Carolina leading up to the event, so you can learn more about this spectacular phenomenon.
If you’re looking to make the most of the eclipse, Asheville breweries are hosting special events with viewing glasses and specials. Additionally, other viewing opportunities can be found at the Nantahala Outdoor Center and Grandfather Mountain.
