Fatal Multi-Car Crash on I-270 in Maryland Leaves One Dead and Several Injured
In a tragic incident on Interstate 270 in Maryland, a wrong-way driver allegedly caused a multi-car crash, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to nine others. The driver, later identified as Jayleen Hannor, was reportedly driving a white Mercedes SUV in the wrong direction on the northbound lanes of I-270 before eventually driving onto the Capital Beltway.
The collision occurred when the Mercedes collided with a Lexus and a Nissan SUV near Maryland Route 355. The impact of the crash was devastating, causing injuries to three children and two adults in the Nissan Pathfinder, as well as five adults in the Lexus. Authorities have not released the identities or conditions of the injured individuals at the time of reporting.
The severity of the crash led to the closure of all lanes on the interstate’s outer loop for several hours. As emergency crews worked tirelessly to clear the wreckage and assist the injured victims, traffic was redirected to alternate routes causing significant delays for commuters.
To the shock of onlookers, Jayleen Hannor fled the scene after the accident. However, law enforcement officials were able to locate and apprehend Hannor later, who was then taken into custody. Charges against Hannor are currently pending as the investigation into the incident continues.
The incident occurred near the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, which is approximately 22 miles northwest of Washington, DC. The proximity to the medical center allowed for a swift response from medical personnel, ensuring that the injured individuals received prompt medical attention.
Fortunately, the westbound traffic on I-495 was reopened around 4:23 a.m. the following day, leading to a gradual return to normalcy for commuters in the area. However, the impact of the accident remains evident, as the community mourns the loss of one woman and hopes for the recovery of those injured.
As the investigation progresses, authorities will continue to gather evidence to determine the cause of the accident and hold those responsible accountable for their actions. Until then, the community remains vigilant, emphasizing the importance of safe and responsible driving to prevent future tragedies on the roads.
