Three Astronauts Set to Return to Earth after Almost a Year on the International Space Station
After spending nearly a year aboard the International Space Station (ISS), three astronauts are now preparing for their journey back to Earth. The rescue craft Soyuz MS-23, which had arrived uncrewed at the ISS back in February, is currently undergoing preparations for its return trip.
NASA recently performed a critical maneuver on Friday to ensure that the Soyuz MS-23 is on the correct trajectory for its journey back home. Although the exact landing time is yet to be announced, the three astronauts will touch down in Kazakhstan.
However, not everything has been smooth sailing for these space explorers. Recently, the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft, which was supposed to bring them back to Earth, was found to be damaged. It is suspected that a micrometeorite caused a coolant leak in the spacecraft, leaving it unusable.
Despite this setback, the stranded astronauts have been diligently carrying out their duties, even taking on tasks that were originally intended for the replacement crew. This unexpected extension in their stay has proved to be an extraordinary opportunity for these astronauts to contribute to the ongoing research and operations on board the ISS.
Additionally, this extended mission has set a new record for the longest time spent in space by an American astronaut. These astronauts have spent an extra six months beyond the normal duration, showcasing their dedication and resilience.
Meanwhile, another astronaut, Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi from the United Arab Emirates, is also scheduled to return to Earth this month. However, unlike the three astronauts who will be using the Soyuz MS-23, Dr. Al Neyadi will be onboard SpaceX’s Dragon craft.
As the world anticipates the safe return of these brave astronauts, the scientific community eagerly awaits the valuable data and insights they will bring back from their near-year-long mission. The dedication and sacrifices of these astronauts exemplify the spirit of exploration and the pursuit of knowledge, making them true celebrities in the realm of space and science.
