This groundbreaking achievement was made possible by the Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment (MOXIE), a 40-pound device attached to the rover. For over two years, MOXIE has been diligently extracting trace amounts of oxygen from the Martian atmosphere.
