Convicted Murderer Escapes from Pennsylvania Prison, Remains at Large
Danelo Cavalcante, a dangerous convicted murderer serving a life sentence, has been on the run for 11 days after his daring escape from Chester County Prison in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Since his escape, Cavalcante has been spotted multiple times, both by witnesses and on surveillance tapes, continuing to evade capture.
It is believed that Cavalcante stole a transit van on Saturday, which was later found abandoned in East Nantmeal Township. In a desperate attempt to elude authorities, Cavalcante reached out to an old work associate for a meeting, but he did not receive a response. However, he was later seen at the residence of a second former work associate, who promptly reported the visit to state police.
Authorities are unsure if Cavalcante is armed, but they have confirmed that he has managed to gain access to several residences since his escape. Surveillance footage captured a man believed to be Cavalcante wearing a baseball cap and a hooded sweatshirt in East Pikeland Township. As a result, there has been an increased police presence in Upper Providence Township, with authorities urging residents to exercise caution by keeping their vehicles and homes locked.
Cavalcante is operating a stolen 2020 White Ford Transit van, which has a refrigeration unit attached to the roof. Previous sightings of the fugitive occurred in the vicinity of Longwood Gardens, prompting law enforcement to focus their search efforts in this area. However, authorities have faced numerous challenges in securing the perimeter due to tunnels, drainage ditches, and inclement weather.
The escaped inmate, originally from Brazil, is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and has a limited proficiency in English. Cavalcante was convicted of first-degree murder in August and sentenced to life imprisonment for fatally stabbing his former girlfriend. It has also been revealed that he is wanted in connection with a separate homicide in Brazil, intensifying the urgency to apprehend him.
As authorities continue their manhunt, two burglaries have been reported in the area during the search for Cavalcante. Surveillance footage revealed the fugitive using an unconventional crab-walk maneuver to scale the prison wall and escape from the exercise yard, a technique previously utilized by another escapee.
Law enforcement agencies are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings or suspicious activity related to Cavalcante. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, including securing their homes and vehicles. The search for this dangerous fugitive continues, as authorities are determined to bring him to justice and ensure the safety of the community.
