The Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH) has issued a warning about an Mpox outbreak in the county, with nine reported cases so far. The affected patients, ranging from 17 to 44 years old, have been presenting with lesions or rashes on their bodies.
Fortunately, diagnostic testing and the Jynneos Mpox vaccine are readily available at local medical providers and CCBH clinics in Parma and Warrensville Heights. To schedule an appointment, individuals can contact 216-201-2041 or email [email protected]. Additional information can be found on the CCBH website.
Symptoms of Mpox can include fever, chills, body aches, and a pimple or blister-like rash. The virus is mainly transmitted through skin-to-skin contact or respiratory secretions such as coughing or sneezing. However, the Jynneos vaccine can effectively prevent Mpox, while early diagnosis and treatment can help minimize the spread of the virus.
In response to the outbreak, the Central Outreach Wellness Center in Cleveland Heights has identified one Mpox case and has taken proactive measures to handle additional cases. Special vaccine clinics were also organized during the 2022 outbreak.
Furthermore, the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland has been actively involved in educating and vaccinating the community against Mpox. Leaders from the center are currently collaborating with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health to provide comprehensive information and messaging about the local outbreak.
It is crucial for residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and others from Mpox. By following the guidance of healthcare professionals and getting vaccinated, we can collectively combat the spread of this virus in our community.
