Lincoln County, NM – The New Mexico Department of Health has confirmed the first death from the plague in three years, marking the first fatal case since 2020. The plague is a bacterial disease spread through infected flea bites and direct contact with infected animals.
Symptoms of the plague include fever, chills, headache, weakness, and painful swelling of lymph nodes. The NMDOH is recommending that residents avoid sick rodents, prevent pets from roaming, use flea control products on pets, and clean up areas where rodents could live.
In 2020, there were four human plague cases with one being fatal. The last reported human plague case before this recent incident was a Torrance County resident in 2021. It’s important for residents to take precautions to prevent the spread of this deadly disease. Stay tuned to Celebrity Beauty Buzz for more updates on this developing story.
